Trombonist Natalie Cressman, 19, hails from San Francisco, where she attended the San Francisco High School of the Arts. In 2010 Natalie was selected by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) as a YoungArts Winner in Jazz. She spent the winters of 2010 and 2011 on tour with Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Classic TAB, and is featured on their most recent album, "TAB at the TAB".
In 2009, Natalie was selected to participate in the GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Band of America. She has played lead trombone in the California All State Jazz Band, the SFJAZZ high school All-stars, the Jazzschool Studio Band, and Jazz Band Classic. As part of Jazz Band Classic, Natalie made her Carnegie Hall debut. She also performed with guest artists Geoffrey Keezer, Ingrid Jensen and Rich Perry in venues such as Symphony Space and Lincoln Center’s Allen Room.
In the summer of 2008, Natalie traveled to Rotterdam for the North Sea Jazz Festival with the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. She first performed with Peter Apfelbaum and the Hieroglyphics Ensemble at the Monterey Jazz Festival when she was 15, and since moving to New York has performed with them at various venues including the Jazz Gallery, The Painted Bride (Philadelphia), and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Natalie has recorded with Peter Apfelbaum, Josh Roseman, Wayne Wallace, Viva DeConcini, Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra, Edgardo Cambon and Orchestra Candela, and Sandy Cressman, and has performed with Pete Escovedo, Carlos Santana, Jesus Diaz, Steven Bernstein, and Sheila E.
Natalie currently leads her own band, the Natalie Cressman Sextet, which features her original music, an exotic blend of world music forms and the jazz idiom. She has performed at some of New York City's leading venues for young musicians, including The Shrine in Harlem, Tutuma Social Club, and The Underground Lounge.
As a singer, dancer and actress, Natalie has performed in the American Conservatory Theater’s “A Christmas Carol,” Baz Luhrman’s Broadway production of “La Boheme,” the California Shakespeare Festival’s “Measure for Measure, and the San Francisco Ballet and City Ballet’s versions of “The Nutcracker.”
Natalie is currently a sophomore at the Manhattan School of Music and she is the recipient of the The Clement Meadmore Foundation Scholarship in Jazz Studies
