inanorchestrainherelementaryschool.At16yearsold,shebecameamemberoftheAmericanYouthJazzBandasatenorsaxophonist 
andsinger.ItwaswiththisgroupthatshecompletedherfirstEuropeantourwhichendedattheMontreuxJazzFestival. 
ShebeganhercollegestudiesinEnglishliteratureatHarvardandplayedintheuniversity'sorchestra.IllinoisJacquet,whoshemetwhile 
astudent,encouragedhertofurtherdevelophervoicebyperformingasasinger.DownBeat,oneoftheprincipalAmericanmagazines 
regardingjazz,calledher,"thebestjazzsoloistattheUniversitylevel." 
Afterherstudies,SaraLazarustookupresidenceinFranceandparticipatedinanumberofEuropeanfestivals:JazzinMarciac,CrestJazz 
Vocal,thefestivalofMontlouis-sur-Loire,BragaJazz,andtheJVCJazzFestivalParis.SheworkedwithsuchmusiciansasAlainJean-Marie,JackyTerrasson,ManuelRocheman,FranckAmsallem,DominiqueLemerle,RiccardoDelFra,GillesNaturel,SteveWilliamsand 
AndreaMichelutti. 
In19,shewasabletocarrythefirstprizeattheInternationalFestivalofTheloniousMonk,wherethejuryincludedJonHendricks,ShirleyHorn, 
CleoLaine,AbbeyLincoln,DianneReevesandJimmyScott.[1]Attheawardsceremony,Sarahadtheopportunitytoparticipateinajam 
sessionwithHerbieHancock,RonCarter,GradyTate,KennyBurrell,JimmyHeathandClarkTerry. 
InNovember2000sheparticipatedinaprojectofPatriceCaratiniandhisJazzEnsemble,whichfocusedonthemusicofColePorterand 
specificallytohisalbumAnythingGoes. 
InMarch2005,hersecondalbum"GivemeaSimpleLife"wasreleasedandshegainednotorietyfollowingtoursinFranceandthroughout 
theEuropeancontinent,notablyparticipatinginvariousjazzfestivals.
