A breath of fresh air, a pleasant, sweet sound, a compelling lyric, a special gift...are all ways to describe this stunning artist. An ordinary person with an extraordinary gift. Amanda Carson Riley, is an artist; singer and songwriter. Amanda has gained some inspiration from Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Twila Paris, and Crystal Lewis. She is from a background and family of singers, songwriters and all types of musicians. Growing up in church, she had the opportunity to sing solos as early as age 10. Being second to last, in a family of eight, she's had the opportunity to watch as older siblings performed in local bands and in church programs. In fact, her oldest sister, Robin, collected accompaniment tracks, of which Amanda delved into each weekend when she stayed over. From artists like Twila Paris and Steven Curtis Chapman to the Bee Gees, Amanda practiced feverishly in the bathroom mirror, with her sister scolding in the background that "the neighbors will complain!" Her personality is calm and happy. She's always been shy unless she's on stage singing..."people can't understand how I can be so shy in one setting and so outgoing in another...like in music," Amanda says. Her shyness sometimes leads others to misread her, but she has a heart full of compassion, which began to blossom after a mission trip to India in 2001. Amanda was asked to accompany her pastor and a ministry team and be the leader of songs in all the camp meetings and revivals. It was an amazing, eye opening, and humbling experience. The children were by far the most welcoming people. "They surrounded me, hugged me, kissed my hands, and wouldn't leave my side," says Amanda of the children she met. The orphanage where Amanda first visited is growing by leaps and bounds. Amanda still has contact with the churches and pastors where she visited. Her church send a monthly mission's offering to the orphanage. Another of Amanda's experience in growth was college. She completed her degree in Arts of Vocal Performance in 2002 from John Wood Community College. She traveled the US. with her choir and had many awesome opportunities for solo, duet, and group work. The same year she sang with praise and worship great, Kent Henry and Al Denson at local youth and church meetings. Most of the gigs she had previously were at the local christian tv station, weddings, funerals, church events, fairs, and luncheons. She even had the opportunity to sing at the local Mayor's Breakfast and sing the National Anthem on several occasions in the community. Briefly, she and her younger sister, Lacey, performed in a Christian Band called 'Out of Bounds' at coffee shops/houses. Besides the band, Amanda also lead Praise and worship for the adult and children's services at her church for 5 years. Amanda has been growing as an artist as she is songwriting and stretching herself musically with more focus on original material and melodies. She is focused on reaching out to all types of people with her message of hope and love.
